Moon Over Buffalo

Buffalo

Front Row left to right: Mike Lacy (Director),
Betty Ratcliffe
, Lisa Avery,
Micah Stuart
, Wayne Roshaven. Second Row: Kristie Lindstrom, John Kuder, Jessica
Warren, Sonia Smith (Director).
Moon over Buffalo
is a madcap farce that takes a zany look at life and love in the
theatre. Moon is told with typical twists, turns, collisions,
mistaken identities, ridiculous mis-communications, slapstick antics,
some terrifying swordplay, and a stage set with six doors.

Add to
all that a hostile, near-deaf mother-in-law, a couple of love triangles,
an overly square weatherman, and a chance at stardom if Frank Capra,
Movie Director, comes to see the play and chooses George and Charlotte
Hay for Hollywood roles….WELL, you have a side splitting evening of
raucous fun.

FOXFIRE
July 28 — August 20
By Hume Cronyn and Susan Short

This simple story of an old, proud mountain woman in the Appalachians
caught between the traditions of the past and the pressures of modern
life is still a relevant tale for our times. Annie Nations has spent her
whole life in the Blue Ridge Mountains, most of it with her husband,
Hector. He's gone five years now, buried back in the orchard, but he's
never far away…slipping into her thoughts, watching her do
chores…still thinking he knows best, even now when her country singer
son is pressuring her to sell the farm. But in the autumn of her
life, Annie Nations will decide for herself whether to hold on to what
she's always known or follow her heart to the other side of the
mountain.

War
of the Worlds
June 9, 10, & 11, 2006

The
original radio play "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells is
coming to BRCT. Director Bill Alexander will bring the radio
broadcast that changed American in October of 1938 and rebroadcast it to
our audiences from the stage with all the energy and authenticity of the
premier presentation. It is a night you will not want to miss.
This broadcasted imagery produced through sound
effects and acting was so powerful, it caused mass hysteria.
Thousands of listeners panicked nationwide, not realizing it was just a
radio play, even though disclaimers were announced before and during the
production.
Following the original production, United Press
reported "The Federal Communications Commission investigated a
radio program which caused thousands of persons in every part of the
country to believe that the eastern United States had been invaded by
creatures from the planet Mars in the first engagement of a 'war of the
world.'"
Expressing profound regret that his dramatic
efforts should cause such consternation, Mr. Welles said, "I don't
think we will choose anything like this again." He hesitated
about presenting it, he disclosed, because "it was our thought that
perhaps people might be bored or annoyed at hearing a tale so
improbably."

Alone
Together
May 5 - May 28, 2006

Pictured
left to right: Daniel
Parrish, Leah Dalton, Tyler Simms, Shannon Guinn, Carol Smith, Travis
Boyce
Kids, can you imagine
your parents in their younger years . in those impulsive, romantic,
carefree days of youth and vigor . driving the family car too fast,
dreaming dreams of the future, and otherwise burning the candle of
life at both ends? (No, me either.)
And parents, can you
envision your children as mature, well-adjusted adults capable of
managing the responsibilities and challenges of life with strength,
grace and wisdom? Or, no matter what their actual age, will your
children always be your .kids. . with skinned knees, poor table
manners and fears of the dark?
As children grow up and
parents grow older, how does the relationship between the two grow? Is
the phrase .Adult Children. an oxymoron? And when the baby birds leave
the nest, how long should the mama and daddy bird wait before
remodeling the extra rooms in the nest into a study and a den?
All these questions,
including the SHOCKING EVENT(!!!) that caused the kids pictured above
to react with such disgust . will be answered by Blue Ridge Community
Theater's production of "Alone Together".
“Alone Together”,
written by Lawrence Roman, is a lively comedy centered around two
parents who, after raising their family, finally find themselves alone
together…but not for long. Their
“empty nest” suddenly becomes full again when all three sons and a
teenage girl simultaneously return home.
This heart-warming and hilarious play is sure to bring a
knowing smile to any parent who’s watched their children struggle
with impending adulthood.
What are parents to do
when their baby birds fly back into the nest?
This is the dilemma facing George and Helene Butler (Daniel
Parrish and Carol Smith). Dreams
of carefree days and passion-filled nights are quickly shattered when
oldest son Michael (Shannon Guinn), quickly followed by brother Elliot
(Travis Boyce), return home and take up residence in the bedrooms of
their youth. Add to the
mix college freshman Janie (Leah Dalton), who shows up seeking
temporary lodging, and Helene and George have a real situation on
their hands. The youngest
son Keith (Tyler Simms) was the last to leave.
Will he also be the last to return?
“Alone Together”
playwright Lawrence Roman, who also wrote “Under the Yum Yum
Tree”, carefully crafts both his dialog and his characters.
“Alone Together” is witty and touching, but most of all it
is truthful. And very
little is funnier than the truth.
“Alone Together” is
directed by Jason Smith with assistant director Shannon Fleeman.

When
a nasty neighbor tries to have her dog put to sleep, Dorothy (Rebekah
Romano) takes her dog Toto (Spike Webb), to run away. A cyclone appears
and carries her to the magical land of Oz where she meets a host of
wonderfully odd characters. Wishing to return home, she begins to travel
to the Emerald City where a great wizard lives. On her way she meets a
Scarecrow (Brittany Dockery) who needs a brain, a Tin Man (Adam Boyce)
who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Brian Pope) who desperately
needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz (Grace Little) will help
them, before the Wicked Witch of the West (Hanna Sims) catches up with
them. On their quest, our foursome triumphantly face a living forest,
swarms of bees, evil flying monkeys and a very angry witch only to find
that what they each desired more than anything... they had all along.

Our
cast is made up of 15 fabulous actors ranging in age from 7 to 16.
Glinda, the Good Witch of the North is being played by Ericia Almond.
The munchkins are doing double duty on stage by filling the roles of the
flying monkeys as well. Those amazing youngsters are: Zachary Cox,
Connor Jones, Lee Sanders, Mac Sanders and Miranda Wilson. Other actors
with dual roles are: Krista Kurtis as Aunt Em and an Emerald City
Resident and Bethany Hawkins and Cierra Hudson as the fantastic living
forest and Emerald City Residents.

Miss
Firecracker Contest
February 17 — March 12, 2006

The Pulitzer Prize winning author, Beth Henley, brings us another
explosively funny play. Carnelle is furiously rehearsing for the Miss
Firecracker Contest, which is being held on the 4th of July.

Her
hope of leaving the small town of Brookhaven in a blaze of glory is
complicated by the arrival of her cousin, Elain, a former Miss
Firecracker, and Delmount, Elain's eccentric brother who has recently
